IMPORTANT! The starting brackets for Saturdays Fire-Bending tournament!
Why some participants go straight to round #2 In single and double elimination brackets, you'll often find that some participants skip the first round (they receive byes). This cannot be avoided unless the number of participants is a power of two (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, ...) — a number that can be repeatedly halved until only 1 person remains. Imagine you paired everyone in round #1 of a 6 player bracket: 1v6, 2v5, 3v4. Three players would advance, leaving you with a bad situation. See top portion of the image below. To avoid this, byes should be awarded in round #1 to two players. Following this rule, round #1 (sometimes referred to as the qualifying round in this scenario) would have 3v6 and 4v5. The two winners, or qualifiers, would advance to join players 1 and 2 in the next round. The bracket at this point becomes balanced with 4 participants, a power of 2.
Hello! As you can see KariOne is hosting a Bending tournament (with the help of Snicks). Some might not understand how this tournament works right off the bat so here is an explanation:
The tournament will be divided into 4 parts, fire tournaments, water tournaments, earth tournaments and air tournaments. The first tournament will be a Fire-bending tournament on the 6th of May at 3 PM EST (7 PM GMT). There is a maximum limit of 20 participants per tournament so make sure you enter quickly, and remember, if you win 1 tournament, you wont be able to participate in the next. If you do not show up for the tournament you signed up for, you will be disqualified and replaced. Each tournament winner will receive a prize. Prizes range from In Game money to rank upgrades and crate keys. You will be facing mighty benders in these weeks to come so make sure you practice!
There are currently 4 separate 1v1 arenas being built for each tournament so stay tuned for that and thank Feroz for building them.
